A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
PAST MESSAGES

                                                                   Summer’s coming.  Are we ready?

       “
Yes!” At least that’s the reply I get from most school kids.  “No!” Don’t have to strain very
hard to guess who says that…parents, of course.  Kids can’t wait to flee the bonds of textbooks,
exams, and homework to immerse themselves in the glories of summer freedom: swimming
pools, computer games, ice cream, and vacations.  Parents on the other hand brace for the
challenge of finding exciting activities to occupy their precious little bundles of joy and
worthwhile employment for those older bundles.  But as exciting as the first week of summer
break is to children everywhere, inevitably the popular chorus of “I’m bored!” will ring through
the valleys, neighborhoods, and dirt roads of Sebastian/Scott County.  So, are we ready?

The church is ready!  We’re ready to make this a summer kids will remember.  Vacation Bible
School is just weeks away.  Mark your calendar for July 21-25.  Each evening as many bundles of
joy as we can hold will make their way to Mansfield First United Methodist Church to experience
God.  That’s what we’re all about.  The mission of the UMC is “making disciples of Jesus Christ
for the transformation of the world” and transformation begins in Mansfield.  Bring as many kids
as you can, help as many evenings as you can, and pray as often as you can.  That’s making
disciples, that’s what we do.

But that’s not all.  We have Youth every Sunday evening at 5 p.m. here at the church.  Bring
your joyful bundles and allow them
another opportunity to experience God.  They need God as
much as possible, and we can help.  Plus, there’s some exciting Youth activities coming up this
summer.  Don’t miss a one!

We’re also ready with Sunday School each Sunday morning.  Yes, we still have Sunday
School!  We start at 10 a.m. each Sunday morning.  Just think,  two hours more sleep than during
the weekday, what a bargain!  Wonderful, loving, committed souls are here every Sunday
morning to introduce children to God.  Thank you to Crickett Thomas, Gary Williams, JoAnne
McGriff, Beverly Jeffery, and Angela Jones for being those devoted disciples.

But that’s not all.  We’re also ready for everyone else too on Sundays!  We have
plenty of
room for more people in Sunday School on Sunday mornings.  Two adult classes are now
offered, a senior adult class in the conference room and another adult class in the fellowship
hall.  Plus we have senior and junior high groups.  Whole families can experience God through
digging into the word and discussing how it can transform the world.  Don’t have time for
breakfast?  Not to worry, there’s donuts and coffee starting at 9:30 a.m.  We’re ready!  What about
you?

My prayer is that we all remember in the excitement, the rush, and the heat of the summer fun
we are still called to be disciples of Jesus Christ, and what grand opportunities there are for
discipleship.  We see more people during the summer, so let's use these opportunities not to just
invite, but to pick up and bring others to worship, bring others to meet God.  So.....
